At least three people have died in a massive fire at a thermocol warehouse in the Nazirabad area under Narendrapur police station, triggering panic among local residents and families of workers. The deaths were confirmed on Monday morning by the Superintendent of Police of Baruipur Police District, as fears persist that more people may still be missing.
The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday at the thermocol warehouse and quickly spread to an adjacent warehouse belonging to an online store, which was stocked with soft drinks and essential items. Following the alert, 12 fire engines were deployed to the spot, and firefighting operations continued for several hours before the blaze was brought largely under control by Monday morning.
Police said at least five workers were initially reported missing after the incident. While three fatalities have been confirmed, the identities of the deceased have not yet been established. Firefighters and police teams are continuing intensive searches inside the premises to check if anyone else remains trapped.
Preliminary investigation suggests that cooking may have been taking place inside the thermocol warehouse, raising questions about whether the fire originated from there. Authorities are examining all possible angles, including safety lapses, as checks continue for any remaining pocket fires within the affected area.
